  The 3 brothers Gibb, Barry and
twins, Maurice and Robin - the Bee Gees -
hailed from Manchester, England and were
raised in Australia for 8 years. While in
Australia, the brothers began performing
together, first as the Gibbs and then as the
BG's before settling on the Bee Gees. The Bee
Gees returned to England with 2 additional
members in their group - Vince Melouney on
guitar and Colin Peterson on drums. The Bee
Gees would eventually return as a
trio/brother group and hit it big during the
disco age of the 1970s with their
contributions to the Saturday
Night Fever soundtrack. Their fame
would also fade along with the disco era, but
the brothers kept busy working with other
artists, refining their sounds, and
continuing to make comebacks until the
untimely death of Maurice in 2003. The Bee
Gees as a group ended with the death of their
brother.
 The Bee Gees released Spicks
& Specks.
The Bee Gees released their
first single in Australia, "The Three
Kisses Of Love."
The Bee Gees hit the charts
world-wide with "New York Mining
Disaster 1941" - their first top 20 hit
in the US and the UK. They also scored US
hits with "To Love Somebody,"
"Holiday," and
"Massachusetts."
 Bees
Gees 1st was released - the LP was
considered their debut and first major
release in the US.
The Bee Gees released Horizontal.
The Bee Gees hit the US charts
with "Words" and "Jumbo"
and their first US Top 10 hit "I've
Gotta Get A Message To You."
 The Bee Gees released Idea.
Melouney left the group.

Precious & Beautiful and Rare
Precious & Beautiful 2 were released
during the year.
The Bee Gees released the
conceptual Odessa.
Maurice married singer Lulu
(divorcing in 1973).
 The
Best Of The Bee Gees, Volume 1 was released.
The Bee Gees hit the US charts
with "I Started A Joke,"
"First Of May," "Tomorrow
Tomorrow" and "Don't Forget To
Remember."
Peterson left the group.
Robin left the group to pursue a
solo career and had a hit in the UK with
"Saved By The Bell" from his solo
LP, Robin's Reign.
Barry and Maurice released Cucumber
Castle.
 Barry, Robin and Maurice
reunited and again recorded as the Bee Gees.

Years On was released.
The Bee Gees released Trafalgar.
The Bee Gees hit #1 in the US
for the first time with "How Can You
Mend A Broken Heart." The single topped
the Billboard Hot 100 Singles chart for 4
weeks and the brothers also had hits during
the year with "Lonely Days" and
"Don't Wanna Live Inside Myself."
 The Bee Gees released To
Whom It May Concern.
The Bee Gees hit the US charts
with "My World," "Alive,"
and "Run To Me."
The Bee Gees released Life
In A Tin Can.
The
Best Of The Bee Gees, Volume 2 was released.
 The Bee Gees released Mr.
Natural.
Produced by Arif Mardin, the Bee
Gees sound veered from ballads to the disco
sound.

On January
12th, Maurice Gibb died at the age of 53
after suffering a heart attack. He had been
in a hospital in Miami for abdominal surgery.
Robin later
announced that they would no longer perform
as the Bee Gees: "The Bee Gees to us was
the 3 brothers. In Maurice's name, we would
respect that and not be the Bee Gees
anymore."
The Bee Gees
were honored at the Grammy Awards with the 2003 Grammy
Legend Award.
