TIMELINE

Evanescencebutton.gif (123 bytes) Evanescence consists of Amy Lee on vocals, Ben Moody on lead guitar, John LeCompt on guitar, Will Boyd on bass, and Rocky Gray on drums and hail from Little Rock, Arkansas. The self-described rock band categorizes their sound as "dramatic, dark rock." The group began with Lee and Moody meeting as teens and finding a musical connection. By the late 90s, Evanescence was gaining notoriety with selling EPs of their music.

2003... # 19 Singles Artist of the Year

Daredevil soundtrackbutton.gif (123 bytes) Evanescence first gained wide-spread notice when their tracks "Bring Me To Life" and "My Immortal" were featured on the soundtrack for Daredevil. "Bring Me To Life" features Paul McCoy of 12 Stones.

button.gif (123 bytes) Evanescence were doing well on the Christian charts until the group made it known that they didn't want to be lumped into the Christian music scene. Fallen had topped the Billboard Top Contemporary Christian Albums chart before Christian record stores began removing the band's LP. Moody had stated about the groups stance on being viewed as a 'Christian band': "...Amy and I are Christians, but we are not a Christian band. We write about a number of things, just things we experience in life. Because our spirituality is a big part of our lives, it comes through in our music. But our lives are our ministry. Our music is just a way for us to convey the message to those who listen that they are not alone."

button.gif (123 bytes) Evanescence won 2 Grammy Awards for Best Hard Rock Performance ("Bring Me To Life") and Best New Artist, and were nominated for Album of the Year, Best Rock Album (Fallen), Best Rock Song (songwriters: Lee and Moody). When the band came up on stage to receive their Best New Artist award, fellow nominee 50 Cent walked up and then off the stage. Lee said of his actions: "I thought it was disrespectful. 50 Cent and my band have been nominated for a lot of awards, and he's won them all, and we always sit there, smile and clap for him. It was the one five minutes that weren't his."
