  Nelly Furtado was born December
2, 1978 in British Columbia, Canada. Nelly
grew up with a Portuguese background (singing
in Portuguese and English by age 4, and
playing the ukulele and trombone by age 9)
and strong desire for R&B music. Her own
eclectic sounds began getting noticed on
radio in 2001 with her break-through hit
"I'm Like A Bird" and her unique
sound that mixes various languages (English,
Portuguese, and Hindi). Local appearances in
Toronto eventually led to a recording
contract with Dreamworks Records and to her
debut LP.
 Nelly appeared as part of the
Lilith Fair concert package.
Nelly released her debut LP, Whoa,
Nelly!.
Nelly hit the Top 40 with "I'm Like A Bird."
