TIMELINE

Alicia Keysbutton.gif (123 bytes) Alicia Keys burst into the music scene in 2001 with her blend of soul and hip-hop (with jazz and classical thrown in) and a style and finesse on the piano not heard in years. Alicia grew up in New York and began work on what would become her debut LP at the age of 14. Her talent was evident early with study at the Professional Performance Arts School in Manhattan. Alicia finished high school by the age of 16, and she attended Columbia University before deciding to make music her focus. She signed with Arista Records in 1998 and followed Clive Davis to his new label, J Records. Alicia could first be heard on the soundtrack for Men In Black ("Dah Dee Dah (Sexy Thing)") and Shaft ("Rock Wit U"). Alicia also dabbled in acting with her first appearance on The Cosby Show.
