button.gif (123 bytes) "When this bogus term alternative rock was being thrown at every '70s retro rehash folk group, we were challenging people to new sonic ideas. If some little snotty anarchist with an Apple Mac and an attitude thinks he invented dance music and the big rock group is coming into his territory, [that's] ridiculous." - Bono, U2 - 1997

TIMELINE

U2button.gif (123 bytes) Who are U2? Paul "Bono" Hewson, Dave "The Edge" Evans, Adam Clayton, and Larry Mullen, Jr. U2 came together in Dublin, Ireland in 1976. The band spent the end of the 70s finding their "alternative" niche, gradually rose to rock super-stardom in the 80s, and continues their mastery of rock, pop, alternative fusion into the 90s. U2 provides rock music with a message - often on politics and religion. With large-scale world tours and successful LP releases, U2 have made their mark as one of the great bands of the century.

The 1970's...

With Evans gone, the name was changed to U2.
