 
Amy Jade Winehouse was born on September 14, 1983 and
grew up in London. Before attempts to conquer US
audiences, Amy became know in the UK with her
eclectic style of music. Amy's debut LP Frank did well in the UK
with the singles "Stronger Than Me,"
"Take The Box," "In My Bed," and
"Pumps," but it took her second LP Back
To Black
to get her noticed by listeners outside the UK,
especially with the single "Rehab." As Amy's fame grew, so did the
fascination with her personal life and admitted
history of bouts with eating disorders and mental
health issues.
Amy released Frank overseas.
The LP was a hit in the UK with several singles and

year.

Amy learned that she wouldn't be attending the Grammy Awards due to her visa being turned
down by the US Embassy.
Amy won 5 Grammy Awards for Record of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Performance - Female and Song
of the Year (awarded to the songwriter) ("Rehab"), Best Pop Vocal Album (Back
To Black),
and Best New Artist, and was nominated for Album of the Year (Back
To Black).
Amy performed at the ceremony via satellite.

was certified 2x platinum.
Amy won the prestigious Ivor Novello songwriting
award.
