Gretchen Wilson was born in Illinois on June 26, 1973. By the time Gretchen arrived in Nashville in 1996, she had already experienced a lifetime of having to grow up quicker than her peers. The fight to get her music heard paid off finally with her debut LP which ushered in praise from critics as a return to true country music.

Gretchen released her debut LP, Here For The Party. Rolling Stone said of the LP: "On this debut, her vocals are just as brassy as her attitude, but she also proves you can be sandpaper-raw and still be complicated.
