 The duo White Stripes hail from
Detroit and consist of the pair Jack White on
vocals, guitar, keyboards, and piano, and Meg
White on drums, backing vocals, and
tambourine. Are they ex-spouses or brother
and sister? Who knows. What is known is that
the White Stripes, who formed in 1997, have
quickly emerged as one of the front-runners
in the rock/alternative music scene and
consistently applauded by critics.

 The White Stripe's first LP, The
White Stripes, was released and described
later by Jack as "...really angry...the
most raw, the most powerful, and the most
Detroit-sounding record we've made."

and was also nominated for Video of the Year.

 The White Stripe's released Elephant.
Elephant topped the UK LP
charts for 2 weeks.

Several concert appearances had
to be rescheduled after Jack was in an
automobile accident and was left with a
shattered index finger.

The White Stripe's video for
"Seven Nation Army" won a MTV Video Music
Award for Best Editing (Olivier Gajan) and
was also nominated for Best Group Video, Best Rock Video, and Best Special Effects (Buf).

Elephant was certified
platinum.

 Jack could be heard on the
soundtrack for Cold
Mountain with several tracks
including "Wayfaring Stranger,"
"Sittin' On Top Of The World,"
"Never Far Away," "Great High
Mountain," and "Christmas Time Will
Soon Be Over." Jack also appeared in the
film.
Jack turned himself into the
police in Detroit and was arraigned on an aggravated
assault charge stemming from a fight earlier
in the month.

Stone named the White Stripes as the
Best Rock Artist.
