TIMELINE
Mumford & Sons consists
of Marcus Mumford on vocals, guitar, drums, and
mandolin, "Country" Winston Marshall on
vocals, banjo, and dobro, Ben Lovett on vocals,
keyboards, accordion, and drums, and Ted Dwane on
vocals, string bass, and drums, and formed in
late 2007. Prior to forming a band together, the
4 friends from London were playing with various
bands. When they came together, their sound
flourished and they started touring through 2008.
Winston described their music as "... real,
and we sing and play our instruments more
passionately cos we feel like we need to. We love
honest music." A few EPs were released by
the band before their debut LP arrived.
September 28: Mumford & Son's first
single "Little Lion Man" was released
in the UK. The song became a Top 10 in Australia,
New Zealand and Belgium.
February 10: Mumford & Sons
released their debut LP Sigh
No More in the US (available for download
at iTunes and Amazon-mp3). The LP hit #1 in
Australia and Ireland, and the Top 10 in Belgium,
Canada, Holland, US, and the UK.
March 6: Mumford & Sons topped
the Billboard Folk Albums chart with Sigh
No More.
October 9: Mumford & Sons topped
the Billboard Alternative Songs chart for a week
with "Little Lion Man."
October 6: Mumford & Sons topped
the UK LP chart with Babel.
October 13: Mumford & Sons topped
the Billboard 200 LP chart, Digital Albums chart,
Rock Albums chart, and Alternative Albums chart
with Babel. The LP sold over 600,000
copies its first week of release in the US.
October 13: Mumford & Sons topped
the Billboard Rock Songs chart with "I Will
Wait."
October 20: Mumford & Sons topped
the Billboard Alternative Songs chart with
"I Will Wait."
December 31: Babel was the 4th best-selling
LP of the year with 1.4 million copies sold.
