Colbie Marie Caillat was born May 28, 1985 in
California. Caillat is the daughter of Ken Caillat
who co-produced the Fleetwood Mac LPs Rumours and Tusk.
Inspired by Lauryn Hill singing "Killing Me
Softly" with the Fugees, Colbie began being interested
in her own singing at the age of 11. After years of
talent shows, Colbie began learning the acoustic
guitar and writing her own songs in her late teens.
Colbie collaborated with singer/songwriter Jason
Reeves and crafted material that eventually landed on
her MySpace page. It was the posting of the song
"Bubbly" that eventually got her MySpace
page noticed and Colbie became the #1 unsigned artist
on MySpace for 4 months. While "Bubbly" was on its way to over 10 million
plays, record companies started to court Colbie, and
Universal Republic made the final deal.
