The inception of the Rolling
Stones began with the childhood friendship
formed between Jagger and Richards at
Wentworth County Primary School. By 1963, the
Rolling Stones (Jagger, Richards, Jones, and
Wyman by year's end) was formed and on their
way to becoming one of the greatest,
decade-spanning rock bands of all-time.

Keith Richards talked with iZine:
Keith on touring: "...on the road it's
pretty much the same as ever. After a show,
we get back to the hotel, and within a
half-hour there's a knock on the door, people
drop by for a drink, discuss the show, have a
few more drinks, play more sounds, and before
you know it, the sun's up." Keith on his
"older" rock stars: "I don't
know if it's just to do with rock 'n' roll or
if it's inverted racism in a way. If I
happened to be black, if I was Muddy
Waters (a Stones mentor) or John Lee Hooker or Louis
Armstrong, Count Basie,
Ray Charles, nobody would even
bring that (age) up." Keith on Mick:
"Sometimes Mick winds me up just to get
me going, because he needs a bit of fire.
I'll make him pissed off, and then I'll yell,
and he'll get angry, and then we got the
blood flowing. We kind of play with it in a
way, almost as much as we play the
instruments, we play each other."

The Rolling Stones had to cancel
some concert appearances during the month
when Mick Jagger came down with laryngitis.
More concert disruptions occurred for the
Stones when a severe ice storm that
devastated parts of northeast U.S. and Canada
also wreaked havoc with the Stones' return to
performing after 2 cancellations due to
Jagger's health. The band also had to cancel
their appearance in Montreal's Olympic
Stadium due to a tear in the building's
flexible roof.
The Rolling Stones were
nominated for 2 Grammy Awards for Best Pop Performance by
a Duo or Group with Vocal ("Anybody Seen My
Baby?") and Best Rock Album (Bridges
To Babylon).
Ron Wood of was rescued from a
burning yacht off the coast of Rio De
Janeiro. Wood and 10 other passengers were
rescued and no injuries were reported.

The Stones had to postpone
starting the European portion of their
current Bridges To Babylon world tour after
Keith Richards hurt his chest in a fall off a
ladder at his home in Connecticut. Richard
was said to have "sustained injuries to
his ribs and chest after the fall."
The Rolling Stones cancelled 4
tour dates in Britain due to the country's
newly enacted tax laws which would cost the
band over $20 million if they played the
dates. Based on the new tax laws, the Stones
would have to pay taxes on their entire
European Bridges to Babylon tour.
The same month the band had to
cancel their concert in Italy (again) - this
time due to Mick Jagger's laryngitis. In a
statement, the band said "we were
looking forward to playing in Italy and we
are very sad we can't. But there's no point
holding a concert if there's a danger of
being suspended after 2 songs."
The Rolling Stones rolled into
Russia to perform as part of their world-tour
for the first time in their long career.
Jagger told the crowd "Privyet Rossiya!
Nakonyets, my zdyes!" which translates,
"Hi Russia, we're here at last!"
The Rolling Stones released the

Keith Richards told Mojo
magazine the current tour almost didn't
happen due to disagreements surround Mick
Jagger's knighthood. He stated: "It was
enraging. I threatened to pull out of the
tour... went berserk and bananas."
Richards stated he wasn't expecting a
knighthood himself, but felt the knighthood
contradicts the band's rebellious image.
Charlie Watts was not upset with the
knighthood saying "...some of the people
who had those medals, or whatever you call
them, are horrendous, so Mick certainly
deserves one..." but also felt Richards
was equally deserving.
