 Snow Patrol originate from
Northern Ireland and formed in the mid 1990s.
The group formed with Gary Lightbody on
vocals and guitar and Mark McClelland on bass
while they were studying in Scotland.
Original names for the band included 'Shrug'
and 'Polar Bear.' Drummer Jonny Quinn joined
the group in the late 1990s. Guitarist Nathan
Connolly soon joined and the group had some
success with the single "Run" in
the UK.

Snow Patrol hit the US Modern
Rock charts and UK charts with

 Mark McClelland left the group
and was replaced by Paul Wilson. Keyboardist
Tom Simpson also became an official member of
the group.

On July 2nd, Snow Patrol
performed in London, England, as part of the
worldwide Live
8 concerts. The mission of the
concerts was to raise awareness of the
on-going poverty in Africa and to pressure
the G8 leaders to take action by doubling
aid, canceling debt, and delivering trade
justice for Africa.
Snow Patrol opened for U2 in Europe.

 Snow Patrol released Eyes
Open.
Snow Patrol topped the UK LP
charts with Eyes
Open.

Snow Patrol hit the Top 40 with
"Chasing Cars."

 Snow Patrol hit the Top 10 with "Chasing Cars."

Eyes
Open was the top-selling LP in the
UK for the year.


Snow Patrol
topped the Billboard Hot Adult Top 40 Tracks
chart with "Chasing Cars."
Snow Patrol
were nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Rock Song ("Chasing Cars").

 Snow Patrol
performed on Saturday Night Live.

Snow Patrol
could be heard on the Spider-Man

soundtrack with "Signal Fire."

 Snow Patrol could be heard on
the compilation Instant
Karma: The Campaign To Save Darfur with
"Isolation."
Snow Patrol
topped the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart
with "Chasing Cars."
Eyes
Open was certified gold.
On July 7th, Snow Patrol
performed at the Live
Earth
concert in the UK. The 7-continent concert
organized by Al Gore brought together over
100 artists to perform and raise the world's
awareness about the climate crisis and how to
make a difference to help the environment and
the world.
