TIMELINE
Jay Sean was born Kamaljit
Singh Jhooti on March 26, 1981 in England. Sean's
interest in music began early when he got
together with his cousin Pritpal Ruprai to form a
hip hop group called 'Compulsive Disorder' - Jay
was 11 and dubbed himself 'Nicky J.' Sean later
dropped out of school studying medicine to pursue
his music interests. Sean found success in the UK
and internationally before teaming up with Lil Wayne and finding success in the
US. The single "Down" became Sean's first hit in
the US and went all the way to the top.
March 26: Jay Sean was born as
Kamaljit Singh Jhooti.
September: The single "Dance
With You (Nachna Tere Naal)" was released
and hit the Top 20 in the UK and Top 5 in
Holland.
June: Jay Sean got his first
Top 10 hit in the UK with "Eyes On
You."
October: The single
"Stolen" hit the Top 5 in the UK.
November 8: Jay Sean released his
debut LP Me
Against Myself in the UK. The LP spawned 2 Top 10
hits in the UK. UK hits from the LP included
"Dance With You," "Eyes On
You," and "Stolen."
May: Jay Sean appeared as
himself in the Bollywood film Kyaa Kool Hai
Hum.
January: Jay Sean released the
single "Ride It." The single hit the
Top 20 in the UK, Top 10 in Russia, and hit #1 in
Romania and Turkey.
April: The single
"Maybe" was released. The single hit
the Top 20 in the UK and topped the charts in
Japan.
May 12: Jay Sean released the LP My
Own Way in the UK after numerous delays due
to material being leaded online. The LP went Top
in the UK and topped the UK R&B LP chart. UK
hits from the LP included "Ride It,"
"Maybe," and "Stay."
July: The single
"Stay" was released.
December 21: A deluxe edition of My
Own Way was released in the UK with
additional songs and remixes. Plans to release
the deluxe edition in the US were cancelled.
Jay Sean signed with
the American label Cash Money Records.
October 17:Jay Sean topped
the Billboard Hot 100 chart for 2 weeks, Radio
Songs chart for 5 weeks, and Pop Songs chart for
3 weeks with help from Lil Wayne with "Down."
