The Weeknd, aka Abel
Tesfaye, hails from Canada and was born on
February 16, 1990. He rose to fame after
releasing several songs on YouTube followed by
several mix tapes in the early 2010s.
November 13: The Weeknd released Trilogy. The compilation LP
consists of remastered mix tapes (House Of
Balloons, Thursday, Echoes Of
Silence) from 2011 and 3 previously
unreleased songs.
December 1: The Weeknd topped the
Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart for 1
week with Trilogy.
September 28: The Weeknd topped the

nominations. There were reports that a difficult
exchange between The Weeknd, Grammy officials and
Super Bowl officials over his performing at both
ceremonies or not, may have contributed to the
lack of nominations. The Weeknd tweeted:
"The Grammys remain corrupt. You owe me, my
fans and the industry tranparency."
