Rapper Kendrick Lamar was born on
June 17, 1987 in California and named after Eddie
Kendricks. He originally began his
career in music as 'K-Dot' while still a
teenager. His mixtape resulted in a deal with Top
Dawg Entertainment. In 2010, his fifth mixtape, O(verly)
D(edicated) expanded his recognition in the rap
music community. With each LP release, Kendrick
has received critical praise and a reputation as
a talented and important rap artist. Time magazine
named Kendrick as one of the '100 most
influential people' in the world and Rolling
Stone has described him as "...the most
gifted rapper of a generation."
Other
mixtapes released by Kendrick as 'K-Dot' included
Y.H.N.I.C. (Hub City Threat: Minor Of The
Year), Training Day, No
Sleep 'Til NYC, and C4. The
Kendrick Lamar EP was released as a free digital
download in 2009.
March 16: Kendrick released To
Pimp A Butterfly. Rolling Stone described
the LP as "...a densely packed, dizzying
rush of unfiltered rage and unapologetic
romanticism, true-crime confessionals,
come-to-Jesus sidebars, blunted-swing
sophistication, scathing self-critique and
rap-quotable riot acts..."
April 4: Kendrick topped Billboard
200 LP chart for 2 weeks, Digital Albums chart
for 2 weeks, Album Sales chart for 2 weeks,
R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart for 2 weeks, and Rap
Albums chart for 3 weeks with To
Pimp A Butterfly.
March 26: Kendrick topped the
Billboard 200 LP chart for 1 week, Digital Albums
chart for 1 week, Album Sales chart for 1 week,
R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart for 2 weeks, and Rap
Albums chart for 3 weeks with untitled
unmastered.
December 31: Kendrick topped the
Billboard Radio Songs chart for 8 weeks and Adult
Pop Songs chart for 9 weeks helping out Maroon 5with
"Don't Wanna Know."
April 14: Kendrick released DAMN. Rolling Stone
called the LP "...a brilliant combination of
the timeless and the modern, the old school and
the next-level..."
April 22: Kendrick topped the
Billboard Digital Songs chart, R&B/Hip-Hop
Songs chart, R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Songs chart,
and Rap Songs chart with "HUMBLE."
May 6: Kendrick topped the
Billboard Hot 100 chart and R&B/Hip-Hop Songs
chart with "HUMBLE."
May 6: Kendrick topped the

June 9: Kendrick could be heard
on the SZA LP Ctrl on the track "Doves
