                      Shaggy was born Orville Richard
Burrell in Jamaica on October 22, 1968. He
stayed in Jamaica as a youth and eventually
moved to New York in his late teens and
fought in the Gulf War. The name Shaggy came
early on after his friends nicknamed him

character. By the time Shaggy hit New York
his ambition for a musical career was in
full-swing and Shaggy had local success with
the dance track "Big Up" and

Carolina" became a huge hit in England
and several other countries. Shaggy had
recorded the track while in the military
                    stationed in North Carolina.
